DESCRIPTION
SPIRIT OF REVOLUTION
is the first ever joint release by the legendary UK punk poets Patrik Fitzgerald and Attila the Stockbroker.
Representing two quite different approaches and styles, this 7" EP is a good illustration of how two performers can work together to great effect.
With similar backgrounds and shared influences of punk, reggae, David Bowie, Jacques Brel, glamrock, pop, classical music and social and political storytelling, Patrik and Attila did a tour of the UK and Scandinavia together in 2006. Some of the results are featured on this record.
Opening with Attila's strident punk mandolin, the ep features two of his songs, a tribute to Joe Strummer and a broadside at xenophobia, before moving to another strong point of Attila's live performance, a rap rant deriding ageism. These three tracks (recorded at Credo, Trondheim, Norway) will be released as part of a live cd.
The other face of this poetry punk ep opens with a Patrik Fitzgerald acoustic song. The Next Revolution (also recorded live at Credo) has a driving rhythm and puzzling chords and looks at life from within the world of sellable rebellion.
Fitzgerald's other track ( Tired ) has guitars, vocals and a backward poem by his partner Jessica Denton, recorded on computer in New Zealand and sent by email to Norway, where industrial classical musicians and the sound of rainfall were added and the track was mixed.
The track speaks about the effects of pollution, weather, computers and electricity on people's health. Having spent years recording songs in studios and on machines, Patrik says he had forgotten that this was what this song was about.
This five track single is an excellent introduction to or addition to the collection of each of these artists' work.
